A death-defying glimpse of Cerro Rico or "the mountain that eats men"

Director Armin Thalhammer and his crew risked their lives to make Cerro Rico - The Silver Mountain, a haunting dive into the depths of the famed Bolivian silver mine, estimated to have cost the lives of up to 8 million men to date.

The film follows a tight-knit group of miners as they plough deeper and deeper into what increasingly strikes the viewer as a vision of hell. Under the feeble lights of a makeshift wiring system, ancient wagons are pushed by hand along damaged tracks until they come to an abrupt stop. Here, the men continue on foot to the nearest silver ore armed with dynamite and incessantly chewing coca leaves, a lifeline that has already cost the senior members of the team most of their teeth.
