Rodriguez is an undeniably talented American musician who’s critically acclaimed two first albums inexplicably flew under the radar when they were released int he early 70s. To the extent that he only sold 6 copies in his debut album in the US.

But, unbeknownst to him and the entire US music industry, Rodriguez’s work quietly became an overnight sensation in South Africa. Within just a few years, Rodriguez had sold more records than Elvis Presley in the country.

Filmmaker Malik Benjelloul follows some of South Africa’s most dedicated Rodriguez fans as they lift the lid on this exceptional artist and attempt to put lifelong myths to rest.
